Mrs H. S. Fox (Riccarton) will leave Christchurch early in February to join the Tainui for a trip to Britain. Mr and Mrs H. J. Beck (Innes road) have returned from a four months' visit to Sydney. Miss E. Dunsford (Gloucester street west) has returned from a visit to Sydney. Miss Blanche Hanna, High street, will leave early in January for a visit to Great Britain and the Continent. Mrs J. C. Holmes acknowledges receipt of 7s BJd from His Lordship's Hotel and Is 3£d from the Clarendon Hotel for the Templeton Farm School. On Tuesday night, a broadcast of great interest to many Christchurch residents was made by the British Broadcasting Corporation from Dayentry, England, where Mar j one Alexander, the Christchurch pianist, gave a recital for Australian and New Zealand listeners. Miss Wiki Aird (Christchurch) is a visitor to Auckland for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Mrs A. Appleby ("Khandallah," Papanui road) will leave to-day for Timaru. Mr and Mrs C. G. Curtis (Rossall street) will spend Christmas with Mr and Mrs Trevor Clarkson, Geraldine. On January 14, they will leave for a visit to the West Coast Sounds and Australia. Miss Stella Murray, the New Zealand contralto, who now lives in London, intends revisiting the Dominion in 1938. Miss Margaret Denton (Hastings), who has been spending a holiday with her aunt, Mrs D. E. Parton (Cashmere Hills), returned to the North Island last night. j Mr and Mrs T. H. Williams (Park I terrace) will leave this morning to spend the holidays at the Marl-J borough Sounds. Miss Zena Rose (St. Elmo Courts) will leave to-day for a tour of the North Island.

Misses D. Payne and A. Rowe (Rangiora) will leave by the steamer express this evening to spend a holiday in the North Island. Lieutenant and Mrs Montgomery, who have been staying in Wellington, arrived in Christchurch yesterday on their way to the Franz Josef glacier, where they will spend Christmas. They will leave Auckland in January on their return to England. A recital of pianoforte music was given by the pupils of Miss A. E. Howes, Springfield, at the home of Mrs R. Milliken. Alter the programme . games and competitions were enjoyed. Winners of the competitions were Mrs G. Ferguson and Miss Kara Smith. Supper was served by the hostess. Mr and Mrs W; H. Dixon, formerly of Christchurch, are now living in Ipswich, England. Mrs Dixon, writing to a friend in Christchurch, says her husband's health caused much anxiety at the beginning of this year, but after a six weeks' course of the new gold injection treatment was almost cured of arthritis. Mr and Mrs Dixon's two daughters, Margaret and Cicely, are doing well at school and are a year below the average age for their respective forms—testimony, Mrs Dixon says, to the soundness of the teaching they received in Christchurch. Miss Lorna Williamson (Woodham road) has left for Auckland to spend the holidays with Mrs *H. O. Judkins, Devonport. Major G. H. Walker, D. 5.0., and Mrs Walker, of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, are visiting relatives in Napier. Major Walker is in New Zealand for the first time since 1900, when he left for the Boer War as a captain in the New Zealand Militia and commander of D. Squadron in the Fourth Contingent. He is now Labour, member, of. Parliament for Salisbury South.
