20,000 VISITORS FROM ABROAD
TOURIST DEPARTMENT’S POSSIBLE TOTAL large increase recorded (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, December 22. There are indications that for the first time in the history of the New Zealand Government Tourist Department the number of visitors from overseas this year will reach 20,000. Returns already show an increase of 44 per cent, over last year’s aggregate. The Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts (the Hon. F. Langstone) said to-night that the department was pleased with the results to date. A considerable amount of time and organisation had been given to inducing shipping companies to place their liners on cruise tours to New Zealand, and the department had secured six cruise trips this season, compared with four last year. This alone had stimulated tourist traffic from overseas.
