NEW ZEALAND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS TOURNEY POSTPONED BECAUSE OF EPIDEMIC (CRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, December 22. The management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to-night decided to postpone the" junior section of the New Zealand championships at Timaru, as the result of advice from the Health Department.

The senior events will take place as arranged. It is hoped that the junior events may be played at a separate tournament later s in the season, although no definite date or location can be fixed at present.

REGRET EXPRESSED AT TIMARU

“UNAVOIDABLE POSITION”

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) TIMARU, December 22. Regret was expressed at the meeting of the management committee of the South Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association to-night at the necessity for the abandonment of the junior championships at Timaru. Information to this effect was conveyed to the meeting by a telephone message from Mr H. N. Burns, secretary of the New Zealand Association, Wellington. Mr R. A. Holdgale, chairman, said that the entries totalled 57, a record for New Zealand, and billets had been arranged for all the visiting players. However, the position was no doubt unavoidable. It was satisfactory that the senior championships would be proceeded with, the entries for which were onethird higher than those of the previous year. It was announced that Mr Burns would arrive in Timaru on Friday. MALVERN SUB-ASSOCIATION In a competition match in the Malvern Tennis Sub-Association’s competitions. Kirwee A beat Darfield A by 114 games to 107. ' Mason, Struthers have engaged Mr Earle Einam, official coach to the Canterbury Tennis Association, and he will be pleased to book couching lessons and to supply leaflets with illustrated hints to players. Mr Chas. Angas. New Zealand’s leading amateur, is also associated with Mason, Struthers’ Sports Department, and will be pleased to assist players with advice. __________________ —®
