SALVATION ARMY’S CHRISTMAS CONCERT

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —It is customary at this season of the year at the Salvation Army Men’s Home. Addington, to indulge with the inmates in a sort of seasonal jollification. I happen to be one of those individuals who on such occasions receives’ an invitation to have tea in the large dining hall, and subsequently to enjoy the pleasantries of a concert, which was held in the chapel situated in the of the building, last Monday. You must not be surprised when I tell you that at tea we were honoured by the presence of his Worship the Mayor and his wife, in company with other citizens of distinction. I could not help observing how the face of his Worship beamed with seasonal smiles; in fact, whichever way he turned his benevolent countenance a seasonal smile would greet you. Christmas smiles and a feeling of Christmas cheerfulness were without doubt the order of the hour. To make everybody happy is truly one of the bright spots found in the social work of the Salvation Army. The success of the concert was due to excellent organisation and to the splendid talent exhibited by the performers. Our Christmas wishes were mutual, and as his Worship the Mayor said, “We shall experience days happier and more prosperous than these.” I remarked to myself. “What a wonderful religious organisation is this Salvation Army, upon which the sun never sets.”—Yours, etc., W. MOSDELL.
