RICCARTON

The annual prize giving ceremony and fair of the'Riccarton School were held in the school grounds. The headmaster, Mr V. J. Gamble, was presented with a clock by Owen C. Stephens, dux of the school, on behalf of the pupils who are leaving. The Education Board was represented by Mr G. W. Armitage, who officially opened the fair, and Mr C. S. Thompson, who presented the prizes. Later, presentations were made to two of the teaching staff. Miss Hammond, who is leaving on an extended holiday, and Miss Ryan, Who is leaving to be married. WEST MELTON

A representative gathering of parents, friends, and children assembled at the West Melton School for the prize-giving. Songs were sung by the school children, and Ray Dierck gave two humorous recitations. Mr H. E. Cross presented the prizes. On behalf of the Standard VI. pupils Ray Dierck presented Mrs K. M. Stewart with a gift in appreciation of the interest she had taken in them.
