MET SON AFTER 18 YEARS
CHRISTCHURCH MAN IN AMERICA
Mr E. Thompson, who recently returned to Christchurch after a nine months' trip to England and the United States, met, in America, his son, Mr Robert Thompson, whom he had not seen for 18 years. In an interview yesterday, Mr Thompson told a representative of "The Press" of his trip, and of the people he had met. He first visited Halifax, his home town, and stayed in England for two months. He then went to America, and met his son. whom he last saw during the Great War.
Mr Thompson was held up for some time in San Francisco by the shipping strike, and he said that that was the only city which really appealed to him becau'se of its beauty. Mr Thompson is a keen collector of autographs, and during his stay in America he got into touch with Dr. Allan Dafoe. the quintuplets' doctor. Yesterday, Mj* Thompson displayed five ribbons which he was sending the quintuplets as a souvenir. Each ribbon had the name of one of the children in gold lettering—one .each for Marie, Annette. Cecile, Emilie, and Yvonne. In his autograph book Mr Thompson also rad the signatures of several of the Governors-General of New Zealand and their wives.
