SELWYN PLANTATION BOARD'S MEETING

The Selwyn Plantation Board held a meeting in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday. The superintendent (Mr R. G. Robinson), in his report to the board, said that the felling of the standing block at Boundary road was well advanced, "and there should be a sufficient quantity of timber there to keep the local mill busy for about six months.' Arrangements had been made to increase ccnsiderably the wood-cutting start immediately after the holidays. All the firebreaks had been put into an effective condition. _ After an informal discussion about the rates of pay of the board's permanent staff, Ihe chairman (Mr L J. PofD moved that a statement of the pay and period of service of the employees be prepared for the next meeting of the board. This motion was carried. . Later in the meeting, Mr Robinson said he had been allowed to use his discretion in the holidays the men were allowed, but he wished the board tc authorise definite holidays. He said there was nothing definite about it. The chairman said that the matter would be included when consideration was given at the next meeting to the rates of pay of the employees.
