CARPENTERS' AWARD
* COURT ORDERS FORTY-HOUR WEEK • (Pa*SS ASSOCIATION TELEOEAM.) WELLINGTON, December 18. The Carpenters' Award issued by the Arbitration Court to-day provides for a 40-hour week with a wage of 2s 6£d an hour for journeymen. The same hours were fixed for country work, but the overtime rate was fixed at Id an hour. Ordinary overtime rates are time and a half for the first four hours and double time thereafter. A 44-hour week of five days and a half is fixed for carpenters employed by harbour boards, maintenance carpenters employed by freezing companies, and carpenters employed by hospital boards.
