Mrs Gerald Anderson and family (Fendalton) will leave to-day to spend the holidays at their cottage at Charteris Bay. Mrs H. A. Knight, who for some months has been living in Holmwood road, has now moved into her new home at 38 Garden road, Fendalton. Mrs Edwyn Wilding (Te Mania, North Canterbury), who is visiting Mrs Frank Wilding, Riccarton, will return home to-day. Templer (Waimate) will leave in the middle of January for Geraldine, to which town Mr Templer has been transferred. Richards, head master of Christ's College, and Mrs Richards will leave shortly after Christmas to spend a holiday at Pleasant Point, South Canterbury. Livingstone, congratulated the committee on the success of the ball, and announced that as a result St. Saviour's Orphanages would benefit to the extent of £72 17s Bd. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Galway, who attended the ball, had i expressed their appreciation of thej arrangements made on their behalf. Miss Doreen Blackburn entertained her junior pupils at her home in Marshland road. The pupils played solos and duets. Tap-dancing and a recitation were enjoyed. A children's tea-party, arranged by Mrs Robinson, Mrs Clark, Mrs Mellhinney, and Mrs Morris, was held in the Springfield Hall. Before tea, Father Christmas headed a dress parade through the township. The prize-winners in the parade were Edna Saundercock and lan Innes. Each child was given a toy by Father Christmas. At a dance in the evening a presentation was made to Miss F. Fraser, for her help as pianist at the community sings. A musical recital was given by the pupils of Miss Joy Dennis, at the residence of her parents, West Belt, Rangiora. Parents and friends were entertained, and after the programme, a dainty supper was served.

At St. Mary's schoolroom, Merivale, yesterday afternoon, parents, grandparents, and friends gathered in large numbers for the concert and prizegiving of Miss Lesley Twyneham's private school, Hamelin. An excellent programme of marches, exercises, tuneful choruses, and dances was given by the children with earnestness and lack of self-consciousness. Their clear enunciation and sense of time and rhythm were particularly good, and showed that Miss Twyneham and her assistant, Miss Natalie Lough, had trained them carefully. After the concert, Mrs W. SWIMMING CLUB'S DANCE

The members of the Yaldhurst Amateur Swimming Club held a successful dance in the Yaldhurst Hall. Music was supplied by Fred Smith's orchestra, and Miss M. Lynskey played an extra. Mr G.. M. Annett was master of ceremonies. A novelty dance was won by Miss V. Chappell, and Mr N. Bradbrook. The Yaldhurst Cycling Club's competition was decided at the dance, and was won by Mrs C. D. URGENT APPEAL

Lady Wigram presided at a meeting of the women's executive of the Canterbury Red Cross Association, held yesterday morning. Mrs Herbert Smith reported that £63 Os 6d had been received, with £ls more to come from sub-centres. Lady Wigram expressed appreciation of the response made by subcentres and by the general public, donations having come from as far afield as Waimate and Taihape. Sixtyseven articles had been received from the children of West Spreydon School. The Wellington branch having undertaken to provide the shoes, boys' trousers, and socks, had eased the position for Christchurch and left more money available for blankets. Complete outfits for 50 children had been procured, and these, with 10 layettes, 20 pairs socks, and a number of blankets, would be packed and dispatched to Wellington at the end of this week. A vote of thanks was passed to the buying committee, Mesdames Smith and N. McGillivrav. Subscriptions previously acknowledged for the appeal amounted to £47 14s 6d. CHRIST'S COLLEGE DANCE

Streamers of black and white, the familiar colours of Christ's College, formed the main feature of the decorations at the Winter Garden last night, when, at the invitation of the prefects of the college, members of the staff and many of the pupils of Christ's College, Rangi-ruru, St. Margaret's College, and Selwyn House attended a most enjoyable dance, for which music was supplied by the Bailey-Marston orchestra. The guests were received by Mrs R. J. Richards, wife of the headmaster. She wore a frock of black delustred satin, the skirt inset with godets of gold tissue, and a pale blue coatee. She was assisted by members of the staff, and the prefects, headed by Donald Thomas, who were indefatigable in attending to the entertainment of their guests. Amongst those present were Mr and Mrs R.
