SUNBATHERS AT NEW BRIGHTON

TO VHt EDITOR Of THE PRBSR Sir,—As a resident of New Brighton who takes a pride in the locality in which he lives, I feel compelled to laise a protest against the filthy and insanitary condition in which the beach and sandhills are left by visitors during the summer week-ends. On a sunny holiday, the beach has much to offer the city dweller, and it is regrcttab'e that many take all they can from this attractive resort, and leave behind them as a memento nothing but a breeding ground for flics, which, in the summer can become very dangerous. Yesterday, the King's Birthday, the sandhills .on both sides of the Pier, as far as they extended to North and South Brighton were covered thckly with sun-balhers. To-day, they are strewn with lunch papers, cardboard boxes, and food containers of various descriptions, banana skins, orange peel, and refuse of exery kind. Now this is only the beginning of the summer holiday season, and the Borough Council cannot be expected to clean up the rubbish left by thoughtless holiday-makers every week-end. Certainly, the beach belongs to everybody, but some persons evidently need reminding that it pays in the long run to protect one's own property. Ycurs BiC GORDON EVANS. New Brighton, December 15, 1936.
