Exception to the recently made Dominion freezing workers’ award was voiced at a meeting held in Hastings, - when the following resolution was passed:— , _ “That this meeting of Hawke s Bay freezing workers emphatically protests against the recently-made award, and j solicits the support of Dominion freezing workers in an effort to have injustices imposed by the Court of Arbitration immediately removed. In conde-mning the award, we stress the point that the court has not fulfilled its functions concerning the 40-hour week and the Arbitration Act. nor has it been guided by the principle laid down by the court in 1927 concerning t wages. ! “In view of the fact that the court t( has not faced its responsibilities or followed established policy, this meet- d ing appeals to the Government to set s up a commission thoroughly to invest!- tl gate not only the detrimental effect of this infamous award on the workers’ livelihood, but also the full and farreaching effects outside interests are having on the New Zealand meat freezing industry.” s ,
