MATCH AGAINST M.C.C. A COMBINED TEAM CANTERBURY APPROVES PROPOSAL The management, committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association decided last evening to' approve the suggestion, made at the annual meeting of the Now Zealand Cricket Council, that the team to meet the touring Marylebono Cricket Club team at Lancaster Park, beginning on March 9, should be a combined Otago-Canterbury team instead of a Canterbury team. Mr W. L. King, the chairman, said that at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Council he had expressed the opinion that the Canterbury Association would make no objection to the proposal. Mr C. S. Thompson asked how the combined team would be selected. Mr W. H. Winsor said that probably the Canterbury and Otago selectors would be asked to make the selection. Mr Thompson; It is fairly certain that we will get a bigger gate if it is Canterbury alone. Mr R. C. Burns was of the opinion that stronger opposition than Canterbury could provide alone was desirable. The team might be without some players who would be absent in England. On his motion it was decided to advise the New Zealand Cricket Council that the association was quite agreeable to combining with Otago for the M.C.C. match. There were present; Messrs W. L. King (in the chain, W. H. Winsor, C. S. Thompson, G. H. Robertson, Sf. L. Wright, C. H. Ayling, R. H. North, C. K. Jackman, J. L. Kerr, G. S. A. BiltclifF, I. B. Cromb, and R. C. Burns. The West Coast Cricket Association forwarded the following nominations for the Minor Associations’ team to meet Canterbury at Lancaster Park on December 16; L. Coffey, J. G. monds, and O. Morris. The Ashburton Cricket Association’s request for an amendment to the rules of the minor associations’ competition, providing that teams playing in preliminary matches should have the option of playing either two-day or one-day games, was referred to a subcommittee.
