AGRICULTURAL CLUBS AT ST. ANDREWS

PROGRAMME DRAWN UP The first meeting of the executive of the St. Andrews group of the boys' and girls’ agricultural clubs was held, with Mr A. Ward presiding. Mr Ward was elected chairman, and Mr G. D. Bruce was elected secretary. Considerable discussion took place on the kind of projects to be taken up by the clubs for the present season. It was recognised that it was rather late to take up crop growing or calf rearing. Ten competitions were eventually decided upon. The executive instructed the secretary to endeavour to get the support of teachers, committeemen, and members of other social organisations to make the initial year of the clubs a success. The meeting decided to notify Mills that the collection of grasses and clovers would be a suitable section in the schedule of women’s institute show. Mr Cocks’s name was added to the executive. ST. ANDREWS TENNIS CLUB PURCHASE OF NEW COURT At a further meeting of members of the St. Andrews Tennis Club held in the public hall it was finally decided to construct a second court at the north end of the present one as soon as possible. Mr Leckie, who presided, advised that the club’s application to the Police Department for the lease of a part of i land to be used as a run back had! been granted at a minimum rental. The secretary said that a loan of £75 was available to the club over'a period of five years. This was accepted. i The Foresters’ Lodge advised that no reduction on the price of the section could be made. FAIRLIE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Hie president, Mis J. Ireland, presided at the monthly meeting of the Kimbell Women’s Institute. Two visitors were welcomed,' and an invitation was received from the Allandale Institute inviting members to its birthday party. It was decided to hold a school children’s picnic in December, and it was agreed to assist the health camps by purchasing stamps. Two delegates, Mrs Green and Mrs A. Barron, were chosen to attend the conference in Timaru. Miss Fraser, who attended the girls' educational week in Timaru. gave an interesting talk on the pleasant time spent there. > The hostesses were Mesdames Paterson and Munro.
