LOVELOCK VISITS WAIMATE

WELCOME AT HIGH SCHOOL FORMER ASSOCIATIONS RECALLED “It is right for the bid athletes to be forgotten, and for the younger ones to come on in their turn, said Mr J. E. Lovelock, the champion miler, in replying to his welcome at the waimate High School yesterday morning. Mr Lovelock referred to his old associations with Waimate, and to the friends he had in the district. On the platform with him wa s the rector of the high school, Mr M. Leadbetter, himself one of New Zealand s former leading athletes. . , “Everyone in this country has an equal chance to get ahead, said Mr Lovelock, “the main thing is keep your balance and perspective.” He was addressing particularly the pupils of the high school and primary school, who were assembled to hear him.
