SCOTTISH CONCERT
The thirty-fifth annual “gathering of the clans and grand Scottish concert” was begun last night by the Christchurch branch of the Scottish Society of New Zealand, when the first of two concerts was presented. The other will be given to-night. The programme last night was:— “Scots Wae’ Hae” (Burns), Mr D. McGill; selection, Pipe Band; “Pair Fa* the Gloaming” (Watson), Miss K. Chappie; Highland reel. Misses Heather McLachlan, Jean Muir, Cathie Simpson, Lola Smith; recitation, “Cuddle Boon” (Anderson), Miss Lucy Cowan; “Far, Far Awa’ ” (Booth), Mr H. Allison; Highland fling. Miss Una Sanders; “Lochnagar" (Byron), Miss Jean Scott; humorous song, Jimmie Grieve; concertina duet, Campbell Boys; seann triubhais, Miss Joan McDonald; “We’re a’ John Tamson’s Bairns,” Mr L. Campbell; “Caller Herrin’” (Lady Nairn), Miss Greta Archer; reel o’ Tulloch. Misses Joan McDonald, Priscilla Smith. Bonnie and Una Sanders; dialogue, “Domestic Mutual Improvement” (Andrew Stewart). Miss Lucy Cowan and Mr A. Macquarris: “There Grows a Bonnie Briar Bush’ 1 (traditional), Miss K. Chappie; “Standard o’ the Braes o’ Mar” (Dewar), Mr L. Campbell; sailor’s hornpipe, Miss Heather McLachlan: “Memories Dear” (P. S. Pheadeal). Miss Jean Scott; “Turn Ye to Me” (traditional), Mr D. McGill; gillie callum. Miss Bonnie Sanders; humorous song Jimmie Grieve; “Auld Lang Syne” the audience. A dance followed. The official piper was Pipe-Major J. McLachlin. and the accompanist Miss Alice Gibb.
