WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
KAIAPOI BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Kaiapoi Women’s Institute was held with the president, Mrs E. J. Corcoran, presiding. Mrs P. G. Hunt reported on the birthday party held recently, both financially and socially. The secretary was asked to write letters of thanks to Messrs R. W. Wylie, J. Taylor, and R. Barnard for their assistance on this occasion. Members were urged to attend the meeting in .Christchurch on November 23. when Mrs Alfred Watt, of Canada, would address Institute members. It was decided to give £1 Is each to the Plunket Society. Kaiapoi Beautifying Association, Crippled Children Fund, the Institute for the Blind, Disabled Soldiers’ Fund, and Children’s Health Camps. The Rev. L. C. Horwood gave a talk on the League of Nations. The competitions resulted as follows: —Best bloom: Mrs C. Joslen 1, Mrs E. J. Corcoran 2, Miss N. Stark 3. Article made from sugar-bag: Mrs G. Green 1. Mrs F. Moore 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Linklater, Moore, Taylor, Misses Holmes, Mclntosh, and Stark. SPRINGSTON SOUTH The monthly meeting of the Springston Women’s Institute was held, with Mrs Hopkins presiding. A competition for a plate of pikelets resulted; —Mrs J. W. Kime 1, Mrs Hopkins 2; another competition, Mrs W. Leslie. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs W. Mounce, Mrs M. F. Ryan, Mrs H. Hamilton, and Mrs C. N. PowelL
