WRESTLING ADMITTANCE CHARGES
TO THE EDITOR OP THE PBEKS Sir, —It was with considerable disgust that I was informed this morning at the booking office that the prices were double the usual charge for the McCready-Savoldi wrestling contest and that ladies were expected to pay full price.
When one considers some of the wrestling matches that have been served up to us, which were not even good showmanship, one naturally becomes indignant at being compelled to pay exorbitant prices for so-called elimination contests.
I. for one, intend to stay away from wrestling contests in the future. In conclusion, I would ask the local wrestling association to be candid enough to advertise its prices. Its action regarding the prices charged for to-night deserves the condemnation of the general public and a boycott of wrestling matches is suggested by me. —•Yours, etc.. LADY FAN. November 10, 1936. [When this letter was referred to the secretary of the Canterbury Wrestling Association, he explained that the two matches, Savoldi v. McCready and Savoldi v. George, which are equivalent to world-title bouts, were obtained for Christchurch on the understanding that they were to be staged at Monica Park. Christchurch was at a distinct disadvantage compared with other centres where there were halls capable of accommodating huge audiences. Unfortunately, owing to the wet weather, the park arrangements had to be abandoned at the last minute, and it was only on condition that the prices were increased and all concessions discontinued that permission was obtained to stage the bouts in St. James’ Theatre. The association very much regretted having to increase the admission prices, but it was a matter either of doing so or of losing the bouts to some other centre.l
