, OFFICIAL FORECASTS [TBB PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, November 11. The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., dnd dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to strong northerly winds, soon backing to westerlies, or in places temporarily to soathwcsteriics. Weather squally and changeable, with scattered rains. Heavy falls probable in the western ranges. Seas rough north of Kaikoura; elsewhere moderate. The following is the Dominion forecast; — Weather cloudy to overcast in western districts from Taranaki southwards and the far south, ■with rain developing, heavy falls be>ng probable in Westland. Elsewhere fair at first; but unsettled conditions extend ng to most districts within the next day or two. A rather intense depression is advancing rapidly on to the Dominion. while a second is crossing Tasmania to-day, and pressure is rising over eastern Australia.

Winds— Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly, rising t f gale force in places about and south of Cook Strait: backing to westerly and later in places temporarily to south-west-crly. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough south of Cape Egmont and in the Copk Strait and Foveaux Strait areas, rising also north of Cape Egmont; elsewhere moderate. Eastern TasmanStrong north to west winds of gale force, and backing temporarily to south-westerlies in the southern portion; seas rather rough to rough.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was dull, with very little sunshine and a very light fall of rain early in the morning. There was a strong easterly wind. The maximum temnerature was 59.3 degrees.

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland —Yesterday there was a moderate westerly wind, with unsettled weather, and light showers in the morning. The sky was overcast and threatening later in the day. Alter rising to 29.85 inches by midday, the barometer was falling in the afternoon. Wellington—Yesterday was a mild, cloudy day, with a strong north-west-erly wind, which reached gale force at times in the afternoon. The minimum temperature during Tuesday night was 50.8 degrees, and the maximum yesterday was 59.5 degrees. Dunedin—There was a fresh breeze from the north-east yesterday, and clouds obscured the sun during the latter part of the day. The maximum temperature was 67 degrees, and the total sunshine was seven hours five minutes The barometer fell sharply end registered 29.28 inches last night.
