SCHOOL’S MEMBERSHIP OF NAVY LEAGUE
UNION JACK PRESENTED (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) MASTERTON, November 11. On behalf of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, Captain Oliver, of the Naval Board, to-day presented a Union Jack to St. Matthew’s School, in recognition of its secondary department attaining 100 per cent, membership of the Navy League. A large company was present, including Sir James Grose, Mrs L. O. H. Tripp, and other representatives of the Navy League, and Mr J. Robertson, M.P. In his address Captain Oliver urged the need of defending Empire communications. He spoke of the navy as a great force for peace, with a fine record of humanitarian achievement. He said that the maintenance of forces adequate to defend the Empire was a condition of its continued existence.
