CASE AGAINST HAIRDRESSER

The Department of Labour, represented by Mr F. Wilson, proceeded in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday against James Olds, hairdresser, of Colombo street, and Ida Annie Olds, on two separate charges of training Paula Midgely Jones in the business of hairdressing in a shop which was not approved as a school of learning by the chief inspector of factories. , , Mr Wilson said that Mrs Olds had received a premium of £25 from Gertrude Jones as payment for her daughter’s tuition. , „ Mr J. A. Niblock, who appeared for the defendants, said that Mrs Olds was not the occupier of the premises as defined in the act. The premises were owned and controlled entirely by Mr Olds, who had received no part of t§e premium. The magistrate, Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M.. said that the case was in many respects obscure, but on the evidence he was unable to find that James Olds had received any of the premium. The evidence also showed that the premises were in the sole ownership of Mr Olds. He would therefore dismiss the information. ..
