WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

WAIAU BRANCH

The monthly meeting of the junior branch of the Lyndon-Waiau Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the home of Mrs G. T. White, when the president, ’Miss Savage, presided over a good attendance of membez*s« * It was decided to take the arts and crafts course, which is run under the auspices of the Otago University. Miss Frances Davies gave an interesting address on the country girls educational week, which she attended in September. She also gave an instructive demonstration on leather work and poker work, which was much enjoyed. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Hostesses for the afternoon were Misses M. Savage, M. McKie, and N. White.

DUNSANDEL BRANCH

The monthly meeting of the Dunsandel Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was well attended. Mrs Chamberlain presided. Mrs Buckenham gave a talk on home nursing emergencies, invalid diet, and preparation and care of the sick room. Competitions were judged as follows: —Something new from something old: Miss Noeline Wright 1, Miss Helen Chapell 2, and Miss Margaret Allen 3. Seed cake: Mrs Chamberlain 1, Miss Mavis Mercer 2. Large blooms: Mrs C. A. Wright 1. Small blooms: Miss Margaret Allen 1, Mrs W. N. Walker and Miss Mavis Mercer equal 2, Mrs N. J. Brown and Mrs J. Scott equal 3.

WEST EYRETON BRANCH

The monthly meeting of the CustWest Eyreton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently, with the president Mrs R. W. Thompson, presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mesdames C. Blackmore, F. Sheat J- Horrell, and Misses Horrell. An interesting address on "The History of Nursing” was given by Miss A. Horrell. Misses L. Wood field and C. Tomlinson gave a short account of the Girls’- Educational Course. Winners of the competitions were: Short trumpet narcissi, Mrs E. A. Woodfleld 1, Miss L. Woodfleld 2, Miss M. Bradley 3; long trumpet narcissi, Mrs E. A. Woodfleld 1, Miss L. Woodfield 2, Miss J. Graham ,3; double narcissi, Mrs E. A. Woodfleld 1, Miss L. Woodfleld 2, Miss M. Mclntosh 3; polyanthus narcissi.
