CHURCH AND NUDE STATUE
“ATTITUDE OF INOFFENSIVE
SUAVITY”
(PBBSS ASSOCIATIO* TBLEOBAM.)
CARTERTON, October 7. The Rev. W. J. Elliott, of Auckland, a former president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, is now visiting Carterton. On having his attention drawn to the attitude of the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations towards the nude statue, he said: “I think the statue is a disgusting sight and a degenerate travesty upon Grecian athletic art. It is pitiable to see the attitude of inoffensive suavity assumed towards it by the Council of Christian Congregations. Surely the Church is in a tepid mood and is drawing the silken cord of a false peace over every great conviction and duty.”
