The Northern (Rangiora) Agricultural and Pastoral Association met yesterday morning, with the president (Mr G. H. Hassall) presiding. ' -The Rangiora Borough Council advised that it would request shopkeepers to close at noon on the day of the annual show on November 6. It Was decided to ask the Rangiora County Council to prohibit the parking of motor-cars in Ashley street on show day, and its traffic inspector (Mr C. L. Dalzell) to assist in the control of traffic outside the showgrounds. The use of the showgrounds for its annual bivouac during the Labour Day week-end was granted to A Squadron, Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry. It was decided to ask the squadron to stage a display on show day. A grant of £1 Is was made to the Canterbury Progress League. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £3l 9s sd. Messrs Wynn-Williams, Brown, and Gfesson and M. Quirk were elected members, and one nomination for membership was received. The tender of A. C. Benjes at £46 15s for repairs and renovations to the hall was accepted by the hall committee. Tennis in North Canterbury Seventeen clubs, with a total_ membership of 580, have affiliated with the North Canterbury Lawn Tennis SubAssociation this season. The „ .total membership last seasonwas 642, but the Rangiora Methodist Club (22 members) and the Ashley Club (15 members) have not affiliated this season. After a number of alterations in the entries in the sub-association competitions, there are now 28 teams taking part, seven in the senior grade, 13 in the intermediate grade, and, eighty in ■the junior grade. To maintain interest in the Kaiapoi Male Choir and among the subscribers a flag 500 tournament and social evening were organised by the choir members in the Orange Hall. The winners of the tournament were Mrs T. R. Leithead and Messrs L. B. Evans and D. Innes. After the tournament a dance was held, ' interspersed with items given by Messrs A. : Hirst, G. HANMER SPRINGS PLUNKET SOCIETY

Mrs G. O. Rutherford presided at a meeting of the committee of the Hanmer Springs sub-branch of the Plunket Society. The need for funds was discussed, and it was decided, with the permission of Mr and Mrs G. O. Rutherford, that a fete should be held at “Lochiel” early in December. The district nurse reported the following attendances during the last five months; —Mothers 28, babies 29, children 6, home visits 6. Miniature Rifle Club . At the final shoot for the season on the. Hanmer Springs Miniature Rifle Club range, buttons were won by Miss J. Leech, D. Stark, P. McManaway, and V. Carson. Miss G. P. Whiting won the final qualifying round for the Greehall trophy.

ELLESMERE RUGBY SUB-UNION

The final meeting of the Ellesmere Rugby Sub-Union for this year was held on Monday evening, with Mr W. S McLaughlin presiding.The Ellesmere School Sports Association advised that the Leeston-Lees-ton Convent team had won the schools competition. It also said that the Southbridge team had played a High School boy in two matches notwithstanding a previous ruling given by the ' sub-union. It was decided to write to the headmaster at Southbridge expressing disapproval of his action, and, further, that the match should be forfeited.
