WEEK-DAY EVENSONG
TO THB EDIT Oil OS' THE PRESS. Sir, —Christchurch, I believe, prides itself upon its appreciation of good music. Will someone correct me if I am wrong? If I am not wrong then I cannot Understand the poor attendance at the week-day evensong in the CathedraL Any person who doubts that the Cathedral choir is one of the best south of the line, and is worthy of support, can soon rid himself of that doubt. There is no excuse for poor attendances because the Cathedral is in the heart of the city and handy to all those leaving their business places at 5 o'clock. Those who go will find that they are not kept much more than half an hour; they will not endure any sermon or collection, but they will find beauty. Furthermore, and to put the matter in its right place, first things should come first. It Is meet that God should find a place in our daily life and that He should be praised and worshipped every day. If we cannot look upon attendance at evensong as an act of love, then it should be regarded as an act of duty. It is more than time that people got back to God and thought less of self.—Yours, etc., . F. October 6, 1936.
