ANNUAL REPORT
A reduction in the credit balance from £l7 .Is lOd to £1 6s 9d is shown in the annual report and bal-ance-sheet of the Canterbury Chess Club, which will be presented to members at the seventieth annual meeting in the club rooms on October 13. The main item of expenditure was £4O for rent, and subscriptions brought in £SO 19s.
During the year ending September 30, the membership increased by 15, making the total roll 85, including seven life members. The club’s team entered the final of the interprovineial telegraphic chess championships by beating Otago by 11| games to BJ, but the final Was lost to Wellington by one point. The Club’s senior championship was won by j. A, Hunter, the intermediate championship by E. H. Hey, and the junior championship by J. I. Mellish. The Drummond Cup Was won by W. D. Khourl from E. Hey, and Hey won the Hart Memorial monthly tournament trophy. At the annual congress in Wellington, Mrs H. R. Abbott won the first New Zealand women’s championship.
