ADDRESS BY MR T. G. BECK
Technical aspects of the methods employed in making records of Water distribution, flow, and general conditions, were discussed by Mr T. G. Beck, resident engineer of the Public Works Department, Temilka, in an address on hydrographic surveying to members of the Canterbury University Coljege Engineering Society at the college last evening. Mr A. G. Bogle presided. , • , Mr Beck briefly outlined methods used abroad, tracing their developments through the centuries. With the use of diagrams and graphs, he explained the details of records of rainfall distribution, floods, and weather influences, and of current, flow, and water-level m a number of New Zealand rivers. He spoke briefly of the problems and progress of recent irrigation ork in Canterbury. On behalf of the society, Mr Bogle thanked the speaker.
To arrangt the society’s 1937 syllabus. Messrs E. L, Cutten and E. M. Nalder were elected treasurer and secretary respectively.
