DINNER PARTY

KANEKE CLUB Mrs F. M. Orchard, who is retiring from the presidency of the Kaneke Club, and who will leave soon for England, and Miss Alice Freeman, who is relinquishing her duties as secretary, were the guests of honour at a complimentary dinner party given by members of the club at the Hotel Federal last nigb,t. Members of the organising committee were Mrs George Maginness, who presided, Mrs E. Rice, and Miss A. Child. Mrs Maginness Wore a black chiffon velvet princess frock,, lightened by a gold flower; Mrs Orchard's trained gown of crimson satin was trimmed with gold shoulder loops to match her gold belt; Mrs Freeman wore a blue Nottingham lace frock and coatee, with touches of pink; Miss Child, black silk . crepe with spray of white flowers; Mrs Rice, black lace frock, black velvet coatee with flame flowers; Miss Nell ; Billcliff, myrtle green taffeta frock. ( Mrs Maginness, after welcoming the ( guests, paid tribute to the excellent work done for the Kaneke Club by Mrs Orchard and Miss Freeman during their six years of office, and wished Mrs Orchard a pleasant trip to Britain. Miss Dorothy Caygill, the youngest member of the club, on behalf of her fellow members, presented Mrs Orchard with a crocodile handbag, and Miss Ruby Wilding presented Miss Freeman with a suit-case. Many toasts were honoured. . and items were given by Misses V. Millow, N. Gillespie, P. Goombes, and N. Billcliff. FAREWELL PARTY Miss Eleanor Denniston was hostess yesterday afternoon at a "cabin" party, given at her home in St. Asaph street in honour of Miss Claire Perry, who, with her parents, Canon and Mrs Charles Perry, will leave this month to make her home in Sydney. The guests were Mesdames Frank I Cox, H. E. W. Robertson, Donald jßcbison, Tyndall Harman, H. Turner 'Jennings, Misses Dola Harper, Agatha I and Pauline Upham, Judith and Jill Barker, Pamela Rawnsley, and Helen Thomson. SANATORIUM SERVICE SOCIETY Mr P. H. Harris presided at , the monthly meeting of the. Sanatorium Service Society, held last night at the home of Mr and Mrs A. Hazleton, Cashmere road. The honorary treasurer, Mr E B. Boham, reported that, during the month, boots and clothing to the value of £33 13s 5d had been bought for needy patients at the Cashmere Sanatorium. It was decided to vote £ls to tne women's sub-committee for the purchase of Christmas presents for patiDonations were gratefully received from the Marlborough Hospital Board, Nelson Hospital Board, subscribers m Nelson, per Mrs Wiggins; Mrs A. W. Spence, Mrs Johns, Mrs Moore, Mrs C. Mackisack, Mrs Larsen, Mr and Mrs Kibbey, Miss M. Bishop and Miss R. Bishop. Gifts of papers and magazines were received from Mrs Blatchford, Mrs B, E. H. Whitcombe, Mrs H. Lance. Mr and Mrs Hazleton were thanked for the use of their drawing-room for the meeting.
