PIPING AND DANCING
CONTINUATION OF FESTIVAL
The competitions at present being conducted by the Piping and Dancing Association in conjunction with the Caledonian and Scottish Societies were continued last evening in the Scottish Society’s hall. As yet none of the piping events has been held, but these will begin tb-morrow afternoon.
The South Island championship for boys and girls, gillie callum, 11 and under 14 years, was competed for last evening, the winner being Miss Joan Russell with Miss Maisie Wilson second.
The Judge of the dancing Is Mrs O. G, Vial, and of the piping, Mr J. J. Allan.
Results:— Character Duo, any age—Erin Matthews and Lenore Upton 1. Betty Irvine and Eileen Riches and Gwen Smith and Clare Brown (equal) 2. Highland Fling, 14 and over—Hazel Neil 1. BUlle Addis 2. Irish Reel, under 13—-Lenore Upton 1, Bonnie Sanders 2.
Tap Duo, 13 and over—Betty Irvine and Eileen Riches 1, Erin Matthews and Clare Brown 2.
Highland Reel. 14 and over—Joyce Fraser 1. Billie Addis 2.
