MARKETING OF FRUIT
COMMITTEE SITTING IN CHRISTCHURCH DEPARTMENTAL ENQUIRY BEGUN Hearing of evidence was begun in Christchurch yesterday by the judicial committee set up by the Minister for Industries and Comme. - (the Hoh. D. G. Sullivan) to enquire into the marketing and handling of New Zealand and imported fruit and vegetables. The committee sat in the Provincial Council Chamber. The evidence was taken in private. The members of the committee axe Messrs A. Coleman (chairman), J. A. Campbell (Director of Horticulture), and J. E. Thomas, of the Department of Industries and Commerce. The su-f-.gs will sontin - 3 till the end of the week, when the committee will leave for Hastings. The evidence taken yesterday was from several fruit-broking firms and from growers. No..e of the evidence or the findings of the committee will be available until a report Is made to the Minister. The enquiry hr j? been begun in the South Island, centres south of Christchurch having already been visited.
