The Legislative Council met'at 2.80 IW Judicature Amendment Bill was reported from the Statutes Revision Committee with _an amendment that Where special juries are established the judge must be satisfied that “business’ 1 Knowledge is required, as well as. mercantile and banking knowledge The bill was' passed. The Council went into committee bn toePoLLcai Disabilities Removal BUI. . The Hon, V. A. Ward objected to unwilling unionists being compelled to contribute to political parties, and moved an amendment setting out that members of a society should be given particulars of any ; resolution before a ballot was taken, and also that no member should be penalised if he did tp contribute. The Hon. M. Connelly opposed the amendment. The. Hon. R. Masters said the bill only made legal what was being done at present. Institutions contributed to political objects without a sharehold* ers’ meeting. « The Hon. R. McCallum opposed contributions to political- objects, Mr Ward withdrew his amendment. The bill was passed. Two days’ leave of absence was granted to the Hon, B. Martin because of illness." - ■* •" - ’■ The Council adjourned at 4.10 pm.
