TRAMPERS MISSING IN MOUNTAINS
—-—♦- SEARCH BY AEROPLANE IN VICTORIA MELBOURNE, August 18. Saying that he and two companions had been lost in the snow without food for f.ve days, and that his mates were unable to continue walking, Howard Mitchell staggered into the Glen Valley Post Office last night. Mitchell said that he and his companions, Clive Cole and Michael Hull, had left on a short trip near Mount Bongong. They took* no emergency rations. A blizzard was encountered, and they wandered for five days. Mitchell undertook to push on to try to get assistance. Mitchell was admitted to hospital suffering from frost-bite. Aeroplanes and nround parties have set out to seek the two missins men. They have now been eight day. without food. Mitchell said that the party lost their sleeping bags and food in a snowdrift, and they had since wandered foodless. He left the others to. bring help.
