ESTIMATES FOR DISCUSSION

FURTHER CONSIDERATION THIS WEEK RETURN OF FARM LABOUR BILL AWAITED [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, August 16. ’ Further consideration of the estimates is likely to provide the House of Representatives with the greater portion of its debating material during the earlier part of the coming week. With the exception of the Farm Labour Bill, which was introduced on Friday morning, only two or three measures of minor importance remain on the order paper, and it is likely that the estimates will provide the main topics of discussion until the former measure is ready for its second reading. In the meantime it has been referred to the Labour Bills Committee, which will hear evidence from interested parties on Wednesday morning. The Minister for Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, has expressed the desire that it should be reported back to the House as soon as possible. It is almost certain that the Government’s Mortgage Bill providing for the readjustment of mortgages on the basis of the guaranteed price, will be introduced during the week. This measure has been under preparation for a considerable time and will probably give members ample opportunities for threshing out a subject that has been particularly pressing during the last few years. Other measures that are likely to make their appearance in the near future are the Pensions Bill, providing for pension increases and the State Highways Bill, which is designed to bring all main arterial roads under the control of the Main Highways Board.
