EPIDEMIC OF CARSTEALING

ONLY ONE MAKE BEING REMOVED

[THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. August 15,

Motorists in Wellington are at present suffering from an epidemic of car-thieving. Evgn private garages are not safe, for there have been in-,, stances during the last few weeks of garages being broken into and the cars removed. Most of the cars have later been found abandoned, and, luckily for the owners, undamaged. The most significant aspect of the thefts is the fact that they are confined to only one make of “baby” car, which is probably due to the standard type of key for the ignition. Few owners lock saloon models when parking them in their private garages, so that once the thief has entered the building it is simple for him to drive the car away.
