HOSPITAL LADY VISITORS’ ASSOCIATION
Mrs E. G. Hogg presided at a committee meeting of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association held at the hospital. Others present were Mesdames S. H. Stewart, P. Cox, J. E. Fleming, P. Wynn-Williams, C. J. Ward, Misses Widdowson, E. Cardale, and L. Bowen. Miss Bowen reported that during July 24 patients had been granted one week at the Rhodes Convalescent Home, 13 patients had been granted two weeks there, one boy had been granted two weeks at the Cholmondeley Home at Governor’s Bay, and 18 garments had been given to needy patients. Mrs Bar tram stated that 20 patients were at present doing occupational work. Gifts of books and magazines had been gratefully received from Mesdames Davis, Bartram, Woodward, Mrs and Miss Hiatt and Misses Ford. Kincaid, Buchanan, Montgomery, Raphael and Fleming. Accounts amounting to £44 17s lOd were passed for payment. Competition results were as follow: Men’s socks, Mrs G. Collinson 1, Mrs W. Nunweek 2; embroidered tea towel, Mrs G. Collinson 1. Mrs F. Preece 2; vase of flowers, Mrs E. Halstead 1, Mrs G. Moore 2; single bloom. Mrs E. Halstead 1, Mrs A. C. Orchard 2. A much appreciated demonstration on the making of paper flowers was given by Mr s Kelly (Christchurch), who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames G. Collinson, W. Hayton, J. King, and J. Steenhart.
