OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, August 10. The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Moderate to strong and squally northerly, to westerly winds; weather mainly fair and mild, but some scattered showers likely; seas slight to moderate, hut rough off shore. The official Dominion forecast is:— Weather changeable and squally with rain in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far north and south; some heavy falls in Westland; mainly fair in eastern areas, but with isolated showers possible. Mild temperatures A series of rather intense westerly depressions continues to cross the Tasman Sea and the southern portion of the Dominion.

Winds—Moderate to strong northwesterly to westerly reaching gale force at times about and south of Cook Strait, backing occasionally in places to south-westerly. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough to rough on the west coast, rough about Cook and Fovoaux Straits: elsewhere, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate strong west winds reaching gale force in the central and southern portions; seas rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday in Christchurch was fine and gunny, although cloudy in the afternoon. There was a slight breeze from the north-east, and the maximum temperature was 55.9 degrees. The evening was clear and mild. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and a light northeasterly breeze was blowing. Wellington—The day was fine and sunny, but with a squally and strong north-westerly wind throughout the day. The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 46.2 degrees. The maximum yesterday was 55.0 degrees at 3 p.m.; the thermometer read 53.5 degrees. Dunedin —Mild conditions with a very slight breeze from the north-east prevailed yesterday.
