JAPAN PROTESTS TO GERMANY
Sale of Munitions To China
FRIENDLY RELATIONS THREATENED (tnrrrio run latocuTtov—go>tbkur.) (Received July 5, 11.45 p.m.) LONDON. July 4. The Tokyo correspondent of “The Times” says that the Japanese Ambassador at Berlin has protested to the German Government about an agreement between China and Germany for the sale of arms to China, saying that the agreement conflicts with the Versailles Treaty and is
likely to impair Japan’s existing friendly relations with Germany, especially as Japan is opposed to the sale of arms to China.
Thfc German Foreign Office has replied that the agreement is only intended to promote trade between China and Germany. Japanese correspondents in China declare that under the agreement Germany undertakes to provide China with a large quantity of munitions, including anti-aircraft guns, mortars, and tanks, accepting payment over a period of four to six years in raw materials.
