FATAL COLLISION MOTOR-CYCLIST AND TAXI MEET [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, July 5. A fatal collision between a motorcyclist and a taxi-cab occurred about 1 o’clock on Saturday afternoon at Mount Eden. The cycßst, George William Mercer, aged 44 years, a cabinetmaker, suffered severe head injuries and died in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday night ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED FALL FROM TRAIN TO RAILS AT MOSGIEL STATION (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, July 5. An accident occurred at the Mosgiel Railway Station yesterday afternoon, when an elderly woman, Mrs Jessie Renton, aged 80, fell between the platform and the 5.15 p.m. train for Dunedin, and was killed instantaneously. There were no witnesses to the accident, but it is thought that Mrs Renton, who had entered a carriage to say good-bye to a friend, endeavoured to step from the carnage to the platform when the train began to move and fell on to the rails. The body was shockingly mutilated and identification was possible only by her clothing. Mrs Renton, who was a widow, lived with her sister. Mrs Robertson, of East Taieri. An inquest will be opened this morning. CAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE A collision between a car driven by Mrs C. H. Hamilton, Bury street, Sumner, and a firewood truck, driven by Reg Cread, Lyttelton, occurred it the intersection of Wakefield avenue and Nayland street, at 1.30 p.m. cn Saturday. Mrs Hamilton’s car, which was travelling along Nayland street towards Scarborough, was struck near the right hand rear wheel. A boy sitting at the rear of the truck was thrown heavily to the "oad, but escaped serious injury. One wheel of the truck was extensively damaged. The car was able to continue after the changing of a wheel. FALL THROUGH ROOF Head and body injuries were received by Mr Prouting, of 51 Cornwall street, when he fell through the roof of a house in Chester street shortly before 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Mr Prouting was engaged in repairing the roof when the accident occurred. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital in a St. John ambulance, and last evening was reported to be making satisfactory progress.
