Red Gross Appeal

The Red Cross Society’s street appeal to which the citizens of Christchurch will be asked to respond generously to-day is one that no one with any knowledge of -good, useful, and merciful work in the community will ignore. Everyone who went through the war period will remember with gratitude and high respect the noble work that was carried on by the Red Cross Society' in those troublous times. But the society is by no means a war organisation. Its work in times of peace has been just as sincere and selfless, as many persons afflicted by the trials, difficulties, and sufferings of the post-war period have cause gratefully to remember. Like all other community service organisations, the society has found difficulty in maintaining its work with heavier demands upon it and a reduced income. Nevertheless it has carried on actively and vigorously, carefully administering the funds entrusted to it. Those who have not had an opportunity to help the society as active voluntary workers, as so many others have done, can do their part today by giving as generously as their pockets will allow.
