AN ENGLISH COTTAGE

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Opening “The Press” of this morning’s date at the illustrated page, I was very pleased and surprised to see the picture of “An English cottage in Quaint Setting.” This recalls many childhood memories, for I recognised it immediately as being one of the 12 cottages built around the old village pump and green, namely Blaise Hamlet, at Henbury, North Bristol. The village of Henbury is one of the most interesting and picturesque in Gloucestershire. I resided within a stone’s throw of the hamlet for many years before my coming to New Zealand in 1908. The late Mr Hiatt, baker, who founded a scholarship to the memory of his son who was killed in the Napier

earthquake, also his wife, were residents there before their marriage. The world is indeed a small place.—Yours etc., E. WEBB. - New Brighton. June 11, 1936.
