IRAN SEVERS RELATIONS WITH U.S.
OFFENCE TAKEN AT PRESS REFERENCES (Received March 31, 8.56 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Mara. 30. Because repeated references to the Shah and to Iran (Persia) in the American press have been displeasing to the Iran Government, it has informed the State Department that it is closing its diplomatic and consular offices in the United States as a protest. The question had been repeatedly discussed by the Iran Charge d'Affaires and Mr Cordeil Hull (Secretary of State). While emphasising that American newspapers would gladly co-operate in any programme to further friendly relations between nations, Mr Hull indicated that there was freedom of the press in the United States.
