FEWER UNEMPLOYED IN BRITAIN

FIGURES SHOW CONTINUING RECOVERY (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESB.) (Received March 11, 7.45 p.m.) RUGBY, March 10. Unemployment in Britain fell last month by 134,701, recovering some of the ground lost in January, when, because of a prolonged spell of severe weather, it increased by 291,157. The total of unemployed on February 24 was 2,025,021, which was 134,701 less than on January 20 and 260,442 less than a year ago. The total of employed, 10,475,000, was 126,000 more than in the month before and 378,000 more than a year ago. The continuance of industrial recovery is shown by comparison of the number of unemployed in each of the last four months with the number in the corresponding months a year ago. All show a decrease, as follows:—February 260,442, January 163,651, December 217,250, November 202,223. Next month unemployment figures should again fall below the 2,000,000 mark. The improvement in February was most marked in the building industry,-largely attributable to milder weather. The number of unemployed was made up of 1,589,316 men, 65,584 boys, 308,357 women, and 61,784 girls. BRITAIN'S INCREASING WEALTH FEWER LARGE INCOMES (BHITISH OFFICIAL WIBELE6S.) The report estimates the total taxable income for the year at £ 1,200,000,000 compared with £1,158,564,150 in 1933-34. /Analysis of the figures has shown that although Britain's wealth as a whole is becoming greater, the number of very large individual incomes is decreasing. - EDUCATION ESTIMATES (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIXKLEBS.) (Received March 11, 7.45 p.m.) RUGBY, March. 10. The Board of Education's estimates for the coming year are more than £47,000,000, showing an increase of £3,000,000 over last year's figures.
