U.S. TO TREBLE AIR FORCE
FOUR THOUSAND NEW MACHINES CONSTRUCTION WITHIN FIVE YEARS (UNITED PIvEJS ASSOCIATIOff-COPYaiGHT.) (Received March 11, 7.30 pjn.) WASHINGTON, March 10. The Military Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives reported favourably to-day on a bill authorising the construction of 4000 military combat aeroplanes, "any time within the next five years." This will more than treble the size of the air force, as'the present strengh is 1700. The five-year clause was inserted* because, it is said, it is impossible for American factories to manufacture such a number within a definite period.
