STEPPING OUT WXTH FASHION PARADE AT D.I.C.

Always in theJc*efront »» sfrfcto raiment, that enterprising firm, .the DIC., never,.loses an• opportunity! of helDine the women of Christchurch to S the standard, of their dressing. At the beginning-of each se asqn.when the: wise woman takes stockofher wardrobe, and plans ahead the D.I.C. arranges a mannequin parade, at which new styles and new materials are shown under pleasant.conditions. In this way a.splendid idea of the latest fashions is obtained,; and cannot fail to be helpful and- stimulating to the eirl with a small dress allowance as, much as to the fortunate woman who can buy anything and everything she 3 When the autumn and winter manneauin parade was held in the D.I.C. tea-room yesterday afternoon, there was not a vacant seat in the big room, and it is safe to predict that, When the parade is repeated this afternoon and to-morrow* the crowd of interested, admiring women will be just as large. Velvet and Taffeta All fashion's forecasts that have recently been starred in London .and Parisian newspapers were to be seen in the smart models worn yesterday. Skirts of walking and sports suits were shorter,. broken checks: and stripes, in monotones,or in contrasting colours were used, for tailored suits and coats, over r blouses, some of striped woollen material for wear. op the golf links, others of lovely metalrun matalasse for bridge and dinner parties were greatly featured, and velvet, so soft and kind to complexions no longer young, .appeared, on the revers and .collars of suits, as well as in an attractive black frock trimmed with diamante buttons and touches of silver lame and in several dignified evening gowns. Taffeta, plain, shot, striped, With smooth surface and in cloque design, will enjoy an unprecedented popularity this year, and consequently in yesterday's models it played an important part. One dinner frock of black satin gained distinction from its unusually shaped collar, pointed cuffs, and deep hem of silver lame; an apricot cloque taffeta evening frock, shot with gold, was greatly admired, and the old world charm of a prunelle quilted taffeta frock was enhanced by .the, quaint black bows at the neck and at the elbows of the long sleeves. An evening frock of silver grey taffeta brocaded in sapphire blue and finished with neckband of brilliants was most attractive, and was rivalled by a deep Gloucester blue moire velvet gown, with shaded flowers on the bodice. The hats were beautiful in colouring, faultless in line, and varied in style, so much so that no woman should have difficulty ih being suited. The military touch was exemplified in the trim little legionnaire hats and variations of the Breton sailor, the saucy American version of the halo hat, and of the pillar-box hat were worn with great success. The display of dainty boudoir gowns and sumptuous fur coats added variety to the parade, which ended with the appearance of an Easter bride and her four attendants—a charming group that was received with spontaneous applause. And as accompaniments to this wellarranged and most enjoyable parade, specially delicious afternoon tea was served and Mr A. Bidgood's orchestra played a programme of- lilting airs., The mannequins, ; all trained by Fashion Displays, Ltd., were Misses M. Fowler, G. Halcrow E. Grant, L. DougWestenra, E. Wright, W. Bust, andvG. Shand. —1 \ .
