CRASH ATTRIBUTED TO PETROL SHORTAGE

CITY OF KHARTOUM ENQUIRY ALEXANDRIA, March 9. Major Cooper, the Air Ministry's inspector of accidents, giving evidence at the resumed enquiry into the wreck of the air liner City .of Khartoum, said that he entirely accepted the statement of the pilot, Mr V. Garry Wilson, that the engines failed because of a petrol shortage. Major Cooper found that the shortage was due to unnecessary readjustments to the carburettors before the fatal flight, increasing petrol consumption by at least 10 per cent. An obscure fault in one of the fuel gauges was -a contributory causey .
