ASSAULT ON GERMAN CONSULATE

TWELVE DEATHS THROUGHOUT COUNTRY MADRID, March 9. j There were 11 deaths in riots in various towns. Twenty-four were wounded. Troops are preserving order. After week-end rioting in Cadiz, in Which a. Catholic church, a convent, and a school were burned down, rioters raided another convent and burned a statue of Jesus in the street. Troops with machine-guns patrolled the streets in motor vehicles. Public buildings were guarded. The police shot a communist in a disturbance at Toledo, whereupon a general strike was declared/stopping all business. While the communist's funeral was passing, revolutionaries destroyed nine churches and four Conservative clubs in various towns.

Escalona was the scene of a gun fight involving one death. Two were killed at Castril, one at Palencia, one at Sepille, and one at Baracaldo.
