The monthly meeting of the SpringsEllesmere Power Board, held at Leeston on Monday, was attended by Messrs G. Maginness (chairman), R. T. McMillan, H. Neave, A. E. Langdale Hunt, and E. H. RoWell. The revenue statement gave the receipts for the month as £2334 16s. General lighting .produced £llO3 ss, public lighting £4B'ss sd, heating £307 7s lid, power £847 12s. The general expenditure totalled £1569 4s 8d (cost of current £970 14s 8d), interest £525 10s lOd, sinking fund £272 12s 7d. The Joss for the month was £34 12s 7d. It was decided, to support a protest made by the South Canterbury Power Board. The Electric Power Boards' Association wrote suggesting that there'was scope for investigation into the possibilities of obtaining a subsidy from the Government for' supply of electricity to consumers in sparsely settled areas. It was left to the engineer to supply certain information sought through a questionnaire. Authority was given for the purchase of an interference locator. The engineer recommended that the Local Government Loans Board should be asked for permission to raise a further sum of £2OOO already authorised by ths ratepayers.
