TAKINGS DECREASE
TRAM PASSENGERS DURING JANUARY A decrease of 105,288 in the number of cash passengers carried during the four weeks ended February 2 by comparison with the figures for the corresponding period last year was shown in a report to the Christchurch Tramway Board yesterday by its works and traffic committee. This decrease represents a drop of £957 in the takings. However, the period last year included the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, when the various entertainments brought about an increase in tram revenue. In all phases of the trams and trolley-bus operations there was a decrease in takings of £472 by comparison with the period last year. The detailed figures were:—
It was also reported that an increase of £l7 in the takings last Saturday had been shown by comparison with those of the corresponding Saturday last year. On Sunday, however, the takings had dropped £l2O, this being attributed to the adverse weather.
