BOWLING CLUB
Excellent sunshine provided the best day of the season on Saturday at the Kaikoura Bowling Club's green, when the semi-final of the rinks championship was played. It resulted as follows:—Corney, Vaughan, Baines, Hay-, ward (6) beat Bowen, Barker, Reid, Lovett (s) 23-12. The final will be played on Saturday between Hayward's and Lovett's rinks.'
The first round of the men's singles championship of the Takahanga Tennis Club for the Morris Cup, resulted as follows:—J. Davison beat S. Cormack, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; R. Grant beat A. Gibson, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; E. William* beat P. Warner, 6-4, 6-1: C. Stewart beat S. Richardson by default.
The first round of the women's singles championship (Barker Cup) resulted:—Miss M. Cormack beat Miss H. Stubbersfield, 6-5, 6-4; Miss M. Keehan beat Miss M. Osmond, 6-2, 6-3; Miss L. Williams beat Miss A. Stubbersfield by default; Miss N Stubbersfield beat Miss E. Ferry by default.
The Marlborough Lawn Tennis Association proposes sending a representative team of 15 women and 15 men to Kaikoura on March 28 to play a series of friendly games against the Takahanga and Kaikoura clubs, St. Patrick's Sporta
A The Kaikoura St Patrick's Sports Association has received very good entries for the events at the annual meeting of the association to be held on Saturday next at the paddock of Mr H. Bleasdale, Suburban. The entries for the running events have been extended until to-day. Wood on County Roads
The cutting of Jae red manuka for \ firewood growing on the Waiau road; outside McDonald's farm, caused a .discussion at the Kaikoura County' Council's meeting .on Friday. The chairman (Mr F. J. Monk) said the cutting of the wood was a genuine mistake by the man concerned. He did not think that further action was necessary, only to make it very clear to the county that no further cutting of woc-d would be tolerated on county roads without the circumstances being examined and permission given by the council.
Harvest Thanksgiving
The annual harvest thanksgiving of the Presbyterian Church was held on Sunday at the morning and evening services, the Rev. P. Robertson taking both services.
The church was well decorated with produce and flowers, and at the evening service the choir sang two anthems and Mr M. Firkin sang "The Lost' Chord." There were good congregations at both services. s Croquet Club
Members of the Croquet Club entertained on Saturday afternoon at the club's greens the women and others who have assisted at the card tournaments and in other ways furthered the club's welfare. Excellent sunny weather prevailed, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. The club competition for the Ludley- Cup is making good progress towards the final.
