COLLISION IN SYDENHAM MOTOR-CYCLIST DIES IN hospital Suffering severe injuries to the head in a collision between a motor-cycle he was riding and a taxi in Queen street, Sydenham, yesterday morning, Arthur Clegg, married, of 160 Sawyer s Arms road, died in the Christchurch Public Hospital last night Clegg was admitted to the hospital at 10.30 a.m. and an operation was performed. He did not rally, however, and died at about 10.40 p.m. YOUTH SERIOUSLY HURT IN COLLISION EXTENSIVE INJURIES RECEIVED WUKSB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 8. Suffering from a broken right forearm, fractured ribs, injury to the lungs, and possibly a fractured skull, Lionel Hill, Egmont street, Patea, aged 20, an employee of the Patea Dairy Produce Grading Stores, is m a serious condition in the Hawera Hospital. He received the injuries in a collision on Saturday night between a car which he was driving and a truck carrying Fitzroy Surf Club members from New Plymouth to Wanganui. The smash occurred on a sharp bend on a hill a mile and a half south of Hawera. Mrs Flora Gilmour, of Bedford street, Patea, was also admitted to hospital with extensive scalp lacerations. but she is reported to-day to be progressing satisfactorily. Mr and Mrs R. R. Signal, of Patea, and three young children, also passengers in Hill’s car, received cuts, and the majority of the passengers in the truck, which was driven by N. R. St. George, of Waitara, suffered slight cuts and bruises. MOTOR-CYCLIST’S LEG FRACTURED (SPECIAL TO THE PRESS.! GREYMOUTH, March 8. An unusual accident occurred on a one-way bridge between Gladstone and New river, six miles from Greymoulh, last night. A motortpyclist, Frank Aldridge, married, of Kumara, met a motor-car driven by James Woods, of Waiuta, at the end of the bridge, and was struck by the rear bumper of the motor-car. He suffered a compound fracture of the right leg. He was removed to the Grey Hospital. IDENTIFICATION OF ACCIDENT VICTIM (press association telegram.) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 7. The man who was killed on Longburn road on Friday has been identified through fingerprints as Ernest John Mathews, aged 53, originally of England, and of no fixed abode in New Zealand. BROKEN LEO Henry Piper, aged 70. of 20 Stratford street, had his right leg broken, when he was knocked off his bicycle by a motor-car, at the corner of Armagh and Colombo streets on Saturday morning. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital about midday, and his condition yesterday was said to be not serious.
