BILL FOR ABOLITION PREPARED MINISTER TO HAVE 1-TLL * CONTROL Although the Railways Board will legally remain in existence till the legislation for its abolition has been passed by Parliament it has already ceased its work, according to a statement marie on Saturday by the Minister for Railways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan). A bill had been prepared which would have the effect of abolishing the board and vesting full control of the railways in the Minister, he said, and it would be introduced early in the session. Until the bill became law, however, everything had slill to be done in the name of the board, but the members had voluntarily approached him and offered their full co-oper-ation by ceasing to act as a board. Mr Sullivan said that members of the board had met him very fairly in the matter, stating that they fully recognised that Ministerial control of the Railways Department was a definite part of the Government’s policy and they had no desire to place any obstacles in the way of carrying out that policy. In the meantime (he general manager was acting as the controlling head, in full consultation with Mr Sullivan as Minister.
